As a kid growing up in Toronto, I was always more interested in the technical side of things and never really got ‘art’ it was always something that confounded me. This kept up all the way through university although I did take a photography course in high school  which I enjoyed, but I didn’t get any good shots out of it. At the time if you told me I’d be a photographer in 5-6 years I’d never have believed you.

So university came and went, I got a degree in engineering and a few friends and I took a trip around Europe, Africa and Asia to explore other cultures, to expand our mindsets and of course to have some fun! While planning for the trip I knew I wanted to get some good pictures so I researched what camera to buy (at the time I did not even own a camera). I was debating between a simple point and shoot camera and a super old Canon Rebel DSLR. I figured I’d give the DSLR a try and when I bought it and started playing around with it, I fell in love.

I was starting to see the world through a different set of eyes, everything that was common and usual suddenly became subjects of interest. I spent most of this time shooting nature, landscapes and objects. I had to relearn most of the basics of exposure and composition but they came back quickly and in time for my trip.

During my trip, which spanned about three months, I had some of the most amazing experiences in my life and saw some of the most spectacular sights. It made Toronto seem dull and boring and when I got back from my trip I fell into a rut and lost my inspiration.

This is when I decided to switch from landscapes and objects to people. This is when I started shooting as much as I could, trying to imitate the images in Vogue, Zink and other magazines I could get my hands on in Chapters. Fast forward to today, I can say I’ve had an awesome time being a photographer. I’ve had a ton of experiences that I would not have had otherwise, like shooting with celebrities, vintage Ferraris, $20k snakes (who knew they were that pricey?) and best of all meeting new people who each have their own amazing story to tell!
